Sam Fayed: Authored Cinema

“…we live in a bizarre era when the immediacy—and where the democratic distribution of technology breeds a profound loss of authenticity. I crave the visceral. The experience of optical stock and Polaroids. The physical touch of a reel-to-reel tape across my fingertips. I especially love working with film; actual 8, 16, 35, 70mm, and 120 rolls—acetate, and emulsion; I revel in cutting and splicing.

I love the whirr of the Steenbeck. Success in the studio—when the work finally comes alive… is when I have pieced together from fragments of the world around me, a visual voice or signature… when the material speaks loud and clear. All this, the energy and nostalgia of what was… in the sanctified half-light of a well-worn scanner.”
