The Turnbull Gallery is pleased to present Complete in the Mind’s Eye, by artist and filmmaker Cinqué Lee and several of his collaborators. The exhibition travels through Lee's inner mind to explore three films at different stages of development. For the first time he will exhibit mixed media collage and installation inspired by his research for each film.

Window on Your Present took over twenty years to complete before it was released in 2010, while Javelin and Chasing Invisible Starlight are currently in pre-production. Lee employs creative techniques to conceive these projects before filming takes place, amassing a vast personal archive of content including scouting photographs, storyboards, notes, research materials, and even 3D printed replicas of his cast members. He creates entire worlds to guide himself through each narrative. To realize this exhibition, The Turnbull Gallery invited Lee into new territory; asking him to explore what happens when an artist reflects on their archive? Can new forms of storytelling arise? How does a film created in the mind differ from the finished release presented to an audience?

Cinqué Lee is an actor, writer, director and film producer. His films include Nowhere Fast (1997), Sink Like a Stone (2000), UR4 Given (2004), Window on Your Present (2010) and Burn Out the Day (2010). He was the co-screenwriter for Crooklyn (1994) and has held acting roles in School Daze (1988), Mystery Train (1989), Coffee and Cigarettes (2003), and Oldboy (2013). Lee attended Saint Ann's School in Brooklyn and the High School of Art & Design in Manhattan. He lives and works in Brooklyn, NY.
